Let’s come together for urban wildlife

An important goal of our lab is to encourage the community to enjoy the wildlife living in their backyards. We inspire public interest in local wildlife species by promoting citizen science opportunities and through educational outreach events.

Ways to get involved

Take our survey!

We are conducting an online, academic survey about raccoons in Vancouver, British Columbia. The purpose of this survey is to understand people’s perceptions of and attitudes towards urban raccoons, as well as to understand human-raccoon conflict within Vancouver. This survey is being conducted by University of British Columbia researchers Sarah Benson-Amram, PhD, and Hannah Griebling.

Let us conduct research on your property

Do you have raccoons living on or traveling through your property and want to help us with our research? Contact us at urban.wildlife@ubc.ca if you would like us to set up a trail camera and/or a humane, live-trap on your property. Please note that all raccoons captured by the Project are released within the area they were captured, and we are currently only working within the city of Vancouver.

Having issues with local wildlife? Check out the The Humane Society of the United States for non-lethal tips on resolving human-wildlife conflict.
